Before I was referred to IFiT, I felt isolated and stuck in the house, scared to go over the door. Then I was referred to IFiT by a local service. I met with staff and was allocated a volunteer to do one on one work with me at first. We would go hikes, go walks and talked once a week. This helped me greatly, then the volunteer took me along to one of the groups. At first, I was really anxious but as time went on I became more comfortable with the groups volunteers and participants, then there was no stopping me.

I attended groups every day and this made me more comfortable to reach out to other services in Inverclyde and that’s where I found the Inverclyde Shed project. I found a love for wood turning and creating unique handmade pens and bowls. Since then, I have successfully completed my college course in nautical/seaman ship and I am volunteer activity organiser for IFiT which involves the development of the projects work and my lived experience is now on asset to me when helping others.

I try to be the person that was there for me when I needed it most.
